IPL Records | Most sixes hit by a batsman in IPL till 2018

Last Updated on December 30, 2019 by Rob James

From day one, IPL has been flooded with records. It was all started by Brendon McCullum who flooded Chinnaswamy Stadium with long sixes in the first match. IPL had seen 10 seasons till 2018 and many records were created many were breaks.

Players like Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli entertained the fans with their batting and with long sixes all over the ground. There is only one man in IPL history till 2018 had hit more than 200 sixes and you will get his name later in this article.

Another interesting fact is that other players who are in this list are way behind from the player who is in the first position. However, other players are in tough competition in the numbers game. Now, without taking too much time let’s start the list from bottom to top.

#5 Virat Kohli (178 sixes)

Captain of Royal Challengers Banglore struck 178 sixes in 155 innings. Banglore’s team is not very lucky in terms of IPL trophy but still, they had high-class players in their team. Virat Kohli is arguably one of the best batsmen right now in the world. It will not be a surprise if he moved to the second or third position in this list after IPL 2019 season.

Kohli is also in the list of those players in IPL history who had hit more than 400 fours. The list also included Suresh Raina and David Warner. Kohli also had four centuries and 34 half-centuries in his IPL career till IPL 2018.

#4 Rohit Sharma (184 sixes)

Mumbai Indian’s captain Rohit Sharma is known for his destructive long batting in cricket. He is sixer king and once he stood in the match for a long time then he only deals with sixes. Rohit Sharma had scored 4493 runs in IPL and only behind to Suresh Raina and Virat Kohli.

#3 Suresh Raina (185 sixes)

Raina is considered as one of the best IPL players of all time. He struck 185 sixes in his 172 innings till IPL 2018. Currently, he is the highest run scorer in IPL history with 4985 runs. His IPL record is in danger in IPL 2019 as Virat Kohli is just 37 runs behind him with 4948 runs.

#2 MS Dhoni and AB de Villiers (186 sixes each)

Two of the best International players in the world had booked their combine names in this list in the second position. However, de Villiers had struck 186 sixes in 129 innings while Dhoni had struck 186 sixes in 158 innings. Due to this, some cricket pundits put de Villiers on second position and Dhoni on the third position. However, we put both in the second position.

We don’t have to forget one thing that de Villiers came to 4th position for Royal Challengers Banglore while Dhoni bat in either 5th or 6th position for Chennai Super Kings. Both the players are good finishers and so let’s see who will leave IPL 2019 as leading six-hitter.

#1 Chris Gayle (292 sixes)

Anyone is there who is expecting any other name here. Gayle is most destructive batsmen all over the world in any Cricket format. He is the only batsmen in IPL history hitting more than 200 sixes. For sure, he will become first batsmen also to hit more than 300 sixes in IPL. He is only short of 8 sixes for this.

He struck 292 sixes in only 111 innings. You can imagine how dangerous he is for any bowling lineup. Difference between him and other players in the list says everything. The difference between first and second position is of 106 sixes and I don’t think anyone can recover the difference in 2019.
