5 Best WWE matches of 2014

The year 2014 was excellent for WWE in terms of match quality. WWE superstars delivered one of the best matches of all time in 2014. Below are top 5 best WWE matches of 2014.

#5 Team Cena Vs Team Authority (Survivor Series 2014)

For close to 15 months, The Authority ruled the WWE with full power.

Authority made it every possible move so  WWE World Heavyweight Championship will be held by member of their own faction. Matches were made in such fashion always.

Mr. McMahon announced that the five-on-five Team Cena versus Team Authority elimination tag team match at Survivor Series 2014 would carry future of WWE.

If Cena’s team won, the Authority would be removed from power. If Team Authority won, every member of Cena’s team would be fired from WWE.

Due to this, it quickly became WWE’s most anticipated match of the year. And its strong and correctly scripted build-up in the weeks leading up to the bout not only enhanced it but make pay-per-view must watch.

While the match was perfect (except for the quick elimination of Ryback), it was true pay-per-view main event we’ve seen from WWE since WrestleMania. Dolph Ziggler was the star of the match and only remaining for Cena’s team. The main reason for this was Big Show’s shocking betrayal of his team and captain’s Cena’s elimination. This put Dolph in this position. He was put in a 3-on-1 situation, but instead of accepting the defeat, he battled back in an attempt to overcome the odds.

Winner- Team Cena

Ziggler impressed everyone by eliminating Luke Harper  and Kane, but Triple H’s presence at ringside was too much for the Dolph Ziggler to handle. The Game took it upon himself to ensure his team emerged victorious.

Before the match could be ended, an unfamiliar entrance theme hit the arena. It was Sting.

As the St. Louis crowd came unglued, Sting approached the ring and attacked Triple H. Ziggler picked up and scored the victory for his team. This ended the Authority’s reign of terror once and for all.

#4 Daniel Bryan Vs Triple H (WrestleMania 30)

The dispute between Daniel Bryan and Triple H dates back to SummerSlam 2013. Triple H cost Bryan the WWE Championship at that event after winning the championship. And Bryan hadn’t been able to get his revenge over the Game for nearly 7 months.

CM Punk’s unexpected departure from WWE threw the WrestleMania 30 plans into disarray. Triple H was now in need of an opponent at the grandest stage of all, and who made more sense than creator of Yes movement Daniel Bryan?

Bryan challenged Triple H to a match at WrestleMania and after weeks of refusing, Triple H finally accepted it. After The Game’s dispute with Randy Orton and Batista, the stipulation was added that the winner would earn a spot in the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match later in the night.

Winner- Daniel Bryan

As well wrestled as the match was , it was the story that made it so great. Fans essentially knew what the outcome would be, but deep down they had a feeling there was a chance Triple H might seek out the win.

The best part about the match was that interference was kept to a minimum. It was a straight-up singles match and Bryan scored a clean victory. It solidified Bryan as a star of the night.

#3 The Wyatt Family Vs The Shield (Elimination Chamber 2014)

From the moment The Wyatt Family arrived in WWE in July 2013, the biggest question on the minds of WWE Universe was when they’d clash with the Shield.

They briefly brawled on an episode of Monday Night Raw in November 2013. Although their altercation lasted no more than 60 seconds, the reaction it received from the live crowd that night was too loud to ignore.

Night after the Royal Rumble, The Wyatt Family interfered in the Shield’s six-man tag team match with John Cena, Daniel Bryan and Sheamus . They cost them spots in the WWE World Heavyweight Championship Elimination Chamber match and setting the stage for their own encounter at the pay-per-view. Last pay-per-view before WrestleMania generally generates less enthusiasm from fans but it was different now.

They only faced off in the middle of the ring, saving the action for the pay-per-view. Not once in the build-up to their long-awaited bout did the two fan favorite factions come to blows against each other.

Before the bell even rang, the Target Center in Minneapolis was hyped with anticipation. The Shield and The Wyatt Family began brawling before the match could officially start and it sent the crowd into a frenzy.

The two trios engaged in a war for the ages. The match only made for WrestleMania. It was unlike any other six-man tag team match either trio had competed in up to that point.

The match also planted seeds for dissension within the Shield (though they remain intact for several more months before Seth Rollins betrayal) when Dean Ambrose disappeared and failed to help his teammates when they were in need of help.

Winner- The Wyatt Family

In the end, Roman Reigns simply couldn’t overcome the odds on his own. He fell victim to the numbers game when the Wyatt Family teamed up on him and pinned him for the win.

#2 Adrian Neville vs. Sami Zayn (NXT Takeover: R Evolution)

Sami Zayn is a big star and Full Sail University crowd knew this thing from the beginning. He debuted on NXT in May 2013 and he was always portrayed as an underdog. With the high crowd support and big matches against Tyler Breeze and Cesaro made him star.  With each loss his popularity rises between WWE Universe.

Fans wanted him to win NXT championship and they got this fantasy wish at NXT Takeover: R Evolution. The show was built around Adrian Neville and Sami Zayn fighting for the NXT Championship. Zayn made a vow to himself that he will not leave ring without winning the title.

The energy in the building that night was unreal. It was a match well over a year in the making and everything about the build-up and execution of it was perfect. One may cite the two referee bumps as one of the match’s flaws, but if anything, they only added to the story. Zayn also teased heel turn but overall it was brilliant.

Winner- Sami Zayn

Neville was also amazing in his role as the confident, babyface that’d do anything to keep the title firmly around his waist. But Zayn’s hunger for gold proved to be too much for Neville to handle.

With one Helluva Kick, Zayn covered Neville for the three counts and his first NXT Championship. The reaction he received from fans in attendance when he finally captured the strap still gave goosebumps.

#1 Daniel Bryan vs. Randy Orton Vs The Batista (WrestleMania 30)

WrestleMania 30 was truely Daniel Bryan’s night. Bryan’s popularity break all the plans and everything WWE management made for the show. It was all about YES, YES and YES. From the beginning it was believed that Royal Rumble winner Batista will become WWE World Heavyweight Champion at WrestleMania.

WWE management think him true successor of Randy Orton and continuously ignore Bryan. WWE fans pushed Bryan on the top after Royal Rumble and they want Daniel Bryan at the main event.

Story changed than, Bryan Vs Triple H became official for WrestleMania 30. Then bitterness between The Game, Orton and Batista added the twist the in the story and Bryan Vs Triple H became number one contender match. Winner will join Randy Orton and The Batista for the main event as triple threat match.

Bryan sold his injuries caused by the The Game previously on the same night very well in the match. Orton and Batista targeted Bryan from the beginning to remove him from the competition. Even Triple H also interfered that some place. The match was classic and it had many close pin falls.

Winner- Daniel Bryan

But in the end, Batista tapped out to Bryan and the crowd at stadium goes on their feet. Bryan had huge support from the crowd and it made match even more special. Fans wanted only Bryan’s win nothing else. Even WWE didn’t have any other option in the main event.

Even the ending of WrestleMania 30 was truly memorable and fans cannot forget it.
